Barnsley end their season with a match against Newcastle on Sunday, with the Magpies looking to secure the Championship title.

With Barnsley currently sitting 14th in the Championship a win could see them finish in the top half if Cardiff and Aston villa don’t better their result.

The Tykes will have to play their final fixture without captain Marc Roberts who missed their previous 1-1 draw with Burton Albion last weekend.

having a transfer request rejected this may be his final game in a Tykes shirt.

Ahead of their 1-1 draw with Burton Albion, Barnsley coach Jamie Clapham told BBC sport ahead of their intentions over this Sundays fixture: “”The season’s not over. We’re really looking forward to going to Newcastle and spoiling their party.”

Newcastle will be keeping an eye on other games this weekend. Aston Villa play Brighton with only a point separating the Seagulls and the Magpies.

With Brighton losing their previous two games and Newcastle winning their previous two it puts the Magpies back in the hunt with fans hoping to see the title lifted at St James Park.

Although, they are going to have to do it without captain Jamaal Lascelles with him missing the match after undergoing a groin operation on Tuesday. The Magpies will also be missing midfielder Matt Ritchie, who is serving his final match of his two match ban for a misconduct charge ahead of the 1-1 draw with Leeds United earlier in April.

“There’s been so much pressure with it and the lads have coped really well obviously got promotion back to the Premier League which was the main aim. If there’s a chance we can take some silverware it would be fantastic but the first job is done, we are back in the Premier League.”
