This time last year our streets were covered in snow and this year we have had a small heatwave but is this to do with global warming?
On the 22nd of February 2018 the Beast from the East hit the streets of the UK. But today a year later we are having a heatwave in what we still class as winter. But the question is, is this heatwave because of global warming?
Climate scientists have said that it is very hard to say whether a couple of day’s good weather is because of climate change. But climate change is increases the likelihood of warmer weather, so it could be having an impact on the warm weather at the minute.
This warm weather has occurred before in February in the previous years. When looking at the records they are fairly close to the heat we have had over the past couple of days.
On Tuesday the weather in Kew Gardens, London reached 21°C which is the highest temperature ever reached in the UK.
But is this something we are going to have to get used to in the years to come due to how the levels of planet-warming greenhouse gases have rocketed over the past 100 years?
