The 14th night of the Betway Premier League was played at the Sheffield Arena on Thursday night.

In what was the penultimate round of fixtures before the play-offs, the players provided the usual amount of entertainment for the packed crowd.

Peter Wright faced Adrian Lewis in the first match of the night, with Wright winning comfortably by a 7-2 score line.

Next up was Raymond Van Barneveld against Dave Chisnall. World number six Chisnall edged out his opponent 7-5, with the Dutchman now unable to qualify for the play-offs.

Gary Anderson then secured his place with a 7-3 victory over James Wade. Anderson said of finals night: “It doesn’t matter if you finish first, second, third or fourth, you’ve got to play whoever’s in front of you.”

The final match of the night saw tournament front runner and World number one Michael Van Gerwen lose 7-3 to Phil Taylor, meaning his lead at the top of the table was cut to one point. Taylor won the match with an average of just over 100.

Last night’s results mean that Van Gerwen, Wright and Anderson have now secured their place in the play-offs. Phil Taylor has all but secured the last spot with his far superior leg difference compared to Dave Chisnall.

If Taylor does get through, he will be looking to win his seventh Premier League title.

After next week. the play-offs will take place at London’s 02 arena on May 18. Both semi-finals and the final will be played on one night, in what is sure to be an action packed night of darting action.
