MOTOR RACING: F1 set for glamour of Monaco

By Spencer Rathbone

The Formula 1 Grand Prix comes to flashy Monaco with Lewis Hamilton completing the fastest laps in both practice sessions, with team mate Nico Rosberg hot on his heels just 20 points behind in the total driver points standings.

Mercedes remain top of the Constructor standings going in to the Grand Prix with 202 points, heading both Ferrari and Williams who lie in second and third respectively.

Based in a country of wealth and luxury, Monaco is the true gem of the Formula 1 circuit. With hotel rooms in and around the venue going at premium prices (for nearly £20,000) it definitely attracts the higher client, the more celebrity figure.

Stars such as Leonardo di Caprio, David Hasselhoff, Jeremy Clarkson and Cameron Diaz were some of the most high profile names to take to Monaco for the racing over the past couple of years.

One Direction’s Liam Payne was pictured at the practice on Thursday as one fourth of the band’s heart-throbs posed with his girlfriend to inject a bit more glamour into an already glamorous event on the calendar.

Let’s not forget the racing though, where all eyes are firmly glued to Lewis Hamilton who is in the box seat to become World Champion.

McLaren however remain at the bottom end of the standings, yet to get any points on the board with Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso in need more than ever of a good grand prix.
