England begin their summer of limited overs cricket leading up to the Champions Trophy with two One Day Internationals against Ireland. The first being at The Brightside Ground in Bristol. The game starts at 10:30.
With the return of some of their best players from the IPL England are certainly not taking the game for granted. The usual talking point will be Eoin Morgan captaining England against the country he started playing cricket for. Players to look out for today will be Yorkshire’s Jonny Bairstow on the back of his career best ODI score of 174 and the return of Mark Wood of Durham from injury, with his pace will add another dimension to the bowling attack they haven’t had in recent games.
Ireland win the toss and bat.
Morgan said of Wood’s return, “It’s been a long and arduous return to fitness for him.”
He went on to add of Liam Plunkett’s fiftieth cap, “He has come back from his multiple injuries to succeed for us.”
11:03 End of the first over 5-0
11:05 Mark Wood to open the bowling with David Willey
11:09 End of the second over 13-0
End of the third over 21-0
11:16 End of the fourth over. A couple of runs from it 23-0
11:21 End of the fifth over. Productive over for Ireland 12 from it 35-0
11:23 Wicket for Mark Wood. 40-1, Stirling gone for 20.
11:24 William Porterfield, the Ireland captain makes his way to the crease.
11:26 That brings an end to a successful over for Wood 41-1 at the end of the sixth.
11:30 Wicket for David Willey, Joyce out LBW for 23.
11:31 Andrew Balbirnie joins the skipper at the crease.
11:32 The Joyce wicket brings the end to the seventh.
11:36 The early intent from the Irish has gone now and it’s about staying in for Balbirnie and Porterfield. Building a partnership for these two is important to help build a competitive total.
11:41 49-2 at the end of the ninth.
11:49 First change of bowling, Jake Ball in the twelfth. One off his first over of the day.
11:54 Change at the other end as well with Liam Plunkett coming on replacing Willey.
11:56 10 off Plunkett’s first, 64-2.
11:59 68-2 off the fourteenth.
12:15 Wicket Andrew Balbirnie for 30.
12:17 82-3 after 18 overs.
12:20 End of Adil Rashid’s first, 84-3
12:29 Wicket William Porterfield 13 off 45 balls. Gary Wilson replaces the captain at the crease.
12:30 Joe Root 1-2 from his first over.
12:32 Spin at both ends is currently working for Eoin Morgan.
12:33 Wicket. Gary Wilson for 1. Kevin O’Brien next man in.
12:43 Halfway through the Ireland innings with them 99-5. England are showing a composure and a ruthlessness that Ireland are lacking in at the moment. The O’Brien brothers need to build a stand if they are to remain competitive in this match.
12:44 26 gone, 103-5.
12:45 Wicket K O Brien LBW to Rashid for four. Stuart Thompson in next.
12:48 Wicket S Thompson for four. Rashid now has three for the innings. George Dockrell joins N O’Brien in the middle.
12:52 Wicket George Dockrell gone for a duck. 109-8. Tim Murtagh to the middle.

13:10 Wicket 126 all out. Murtagh for 11. Rashid with a five-fer. His first in ODI Cricket.
13:10 Highlight of the innings, Adil Rashid five for 27.
13:56 So far England are chasing down 127 at a canter with Hales attacking the bowling. The only hiccup was the loss of Jason Roy for 0.
